Do you think that too many pastors burn out too quickly? We have found a simple way that can help: The Pastors Small Group.
A Pastors Small Group may take a variety of forms. One form could be a book review group that meets for discussion of books of interest to the group. It could be an idea group for brainstorming or as a forum for feedback and insight. You have the opportunity to encourage the pastors in your area.
Here are some tips in creating a Pastors Small Group.
- Call up 2-4 pastors you know and discuss the possibility of meeting together on a regular basis. We have found that meeting once a month works for many pastors.
- Choose a location and time available for all of those involved. The meeting place should be relevant to the primary focus of the time. For example, in the case of a book review group, choose a bookstore with a reading area, or perhaps a comfortable coffee house. In an effort to increase openness and genuineness, try to avoid meeting in a church or office.
- Approach the time together that best meets your needs. If meeting to have fun and relax with pastors of similar interest, enjoy yourselves and leave your work at the office. If meeting to discuss books or to generate and share ideas, be open, constructive and not refrain from being critical.
- In whatever activity you partake in together, be flexible to allow the Holy Spirit to move. It may not be a designated purpose of your time together, but do not be afraid to take times to pray together and encourage one another.
